Kaj Franck

Kaj Franck (1911-1989) was one of Finland's most influential designers, known for his functional and minimalist designs in ceramics and glass. He studied at the Central School of Art and Design in Helsinki and worked for Arabia and Nuutajärvi glassworks during his career.

Franck advocated simplicity and functionality in design, and his work was characterized by clean lines and a pared-down aesthetic. He created several iconic tableware and glassware pieces, including:

- Teema (1952) - a stylish and modular porcelain dinner service for Arabia, still in production today.
- Kilta (1953) - a predecessor of Teema, known for its geometric shapes and practicality
- Kartio (1958) - a series of drinking glasses for Nuutajärvi, characterized by its simplicity and durability.
- Prisma and Bölgeblick - experimental glass objects that showed his interest in both form and color.
Franck was a pioneer of sustainable design and criticized excessive consumption. He won several international awards and is today one of the most celebrated Nordic designers. His works are timeless and are still used in many homes around the world.
