Mari Simmulson Ceramics - Upsala Ekeby Retro
As a scholarship holder, Mari Simmulson came to Helsinki in 1937 where she worked as a freelance artist at Arabia. She continued her studies in sculpture with KARL KILLER in 1938-1939 and 1942-1943 at the Academie der bildenden Künste in Munich and in 1941-1942 she studied at the Higher Art School in Tallinn. She came as a refugee to Sweden in 1944 and the following year was employed at Gustavsberg's studio where she worked until she joined Upsala Ekeby in 1949 until 1972. She was also a designer at Deco in Helsingborg for a few years. Simmulson's ceramic production includes utilitarian ornaments as well as decorative works.
