Sven Weisfelt

Sven Wejsfelt (originally Johansson, 1930-2009) was a Swedish ceramist, freehand turner and sculptor, mainly active at Gustavsberg Porcelain Factory where he worked for over 50 years. He began his career at Rörstrands Porslinsfabrik (1946-1953) and then moved to Gustavsberg, where he became a central figure in the Swedish ceramic tradition.

His best-known works include turned stoneware vases and cast fish and animal figures. He often worked with glazes in cornflower blue, oxblood, and various resin glazes. His specialty was miniatures. In 1987 he participated in the major exhibition *Studio Gustavsberg* together with other prominent ceramists from the factory. Today Wejsfelt is considered to be one of the last Swedish ceramists to carry on the Chinese-inspired stoneware tradition that flourished in Sweden between the 1930s and 1960s. His work is represented in major museum collections, including the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York.
