Åke Holm

Åke Holm (1900-1980) was a Swedish ceramicist and sculptor working in Höganäs. He began his career at Höganäsbolaget at the age of 15, working in glazing and kiln firing. In 1928 he started his own workshop and became known for his 'Kullatroll', small figures sold as souvenirs. In the 1930s, Holm began creating artworks with biblical motifs in terracotta, and in the 1940s he switched to glazed stoneware. His works include stylized animal figures and monumental sculptures, often with dark glazes that gave an iron-like surface. In the 1950s and 60s he developed a more abstract and sculptural style, with subjects such as Moses and Peter. He donated a large part of his production to Höganäs Museum, where his work can be seen today. Holm is also represented at the National Museum in Stockholm.
