Art glass is a form of glass created with artistic purpose rather than mere function. It is characterized by unique shapes, colours and techniques, with each object often handmade and bearing traces of the glass artist's personal expression. Art glass can be both decorative and conceptual, and ranges from sculptural works to artistically designed utility objects.

In Sweden, art glass has a strong tradition, particularly through glassworks such as Kosta, Orrefors and Boda, where designers have developed glass into a recognized art form on both a national and international level. Internationally, well-known glassworks such as Murano in Italy, Lalique in France and Waterford in Ireland have also played a significant role in the history and development of art glass.
